Limnophylla Brown

Limnophila Brown or Darwin Ambulia, scientific name Limnophila brownii. Endemic to northern Australia. For the first time it was near the port city of Darwin, which is reflected in one of the names of this species. It grows along the coastline in calm backwaters of rivers.

Limnophylla Brown

Outwardly, it resembles the aquatic Limnophila known in the aquarium trade. The similarity lies in the erect high stem, covered with evenly thin pinnate leaves. However, the leaf whorls of Limnophila Brown are noticeably smaller, and in bright light, the upper tips of the shoots and stem take on a contrasting bronze or brownish red tint.

The plant needs nutrient-rich soil. It is advisable to use special aquarium soil. Additional introduction of carbon dioxide will promote rapid growth. As already mentioned, a high level of lighting contributes to the manifestation of bronze hues. Do not use in aquariums with strong and moderate currents.

Propagation is carried out similarly to most other stem plants: with the help of pruning, with the planting of separated cuttings, or side shoots.
